BlogHer Chicago: To Go or Not to Go?

There probably isn't really any question, because we are so broke that it's irresponsible to even think of leaving town for a couple of days, much less spending $200 on registration, much much less whatever it would cost if I COULD find a place to stay. But the thing is, I can get there without spending any money. The thing that kept me from going last year, air-fare, is not a factor for this year.

I want to go. I really do. Wonderful friends will be there, and great learning opportunities will abound...I just can't seem to make it all come together. Which is probably a clear sign that I shouldn't be thinking of going.

But I want to go. Did I mention that? Help me dither, internets. Isn't it fun? And if you happen to have an empty apartment on Michigan Avenue just sitting there going to waste, drop me a line.

  1. I'm sure there must be some blogger you know who lives in Chicago who could put you up for a couple of days (unless you really snore loudly).

  2. Two words...

    Amy Sedaris.

I now regret that I made other plans, because I'd really, really like to meet her. :-(

  3. Yeah I wanted to go to chicago during that weekend, not to attend the conference, but just to meet some lovely lady-friends... But I can't afford it, and our house will be under construction during that time, so I can't justify it. I think the conference fees are too expensive, and I've never really been interested in any of the sessions they offer, to be honest.

  4. I don't know anyone who has a free room or house but I do know that Ann-Marie from MamaRants is looking for a roommate at City Center... She has a post in the BlogHer forums looking for a roommate.

  5. I don't care if you snore. Come stay with me. No joke. The whole Waiting To Meet Belinda has just gotten ridiculous. Do you not remember the hilarious exchange we had last year? It made ME excited about going to San Jose and I could barely afford that. (See: Kelly's Profession, Schoolteacher)

Also? Amy Sedaris. Duh. If not for me, then do it for Amy. She's so cute and we could kidnap her to come make cupcakes with us and we could sell them on the street corners and make that registration money back in NO time.

    Come. Come. Come.

  6. I'd love to go as well to ChiTown. Alas, little things are stopping me. Literally! The new guy is less than nine pounds. He's a friggin shrimp compared to Dinker at this age.

I say you should take the op and bunk with someone if they are giving you the freebie greenlight.

And the prospect of selling fairy cakes on a street corner does sell enterprising.

    Oh hell, just do it.

  7. Got any soap we can buy?

  8. Go stay with Kelly. Stay up late, telling stories, and drinking funny looking drinks.

Go because there will always be a perfectly good reason not to go, which mean you could spend your whole life being sensible. And bored.

Go because then both you and Kelly can take pictures for me to live vicariously through ('cause it all comes back to me in the end, of course).

  9. I was thinking of going to Chicago, but changed my mind and am saving up for PCA '08:o)

Sorry, I don't know what to tell you!!

  10. Would you be willing to live-blog in exchange for a conference pass? I have waited a bit long to start wrangling my volunteer crew, so I'm still on the hunt...could use people to either live text blog or audio record sessions.

    Email me if you're interested:

See? BlogHer wants you! DO IT!

(I'm on the living-vicariously-through-you bandwagon, for the record)

  12. Definitely go!! I'll see ya there!

  13. The great and powerful internet has spoken.

Please take your complimentary gift basket on your way home.

  14. I see from Twitter you're headed to Chicago. Have fun! Drink a pretty cocktail for me!

  15. Yo, Belinda! Did you forget that I live in the Chicago area? My house is in Highland Park, about 25 miles from downtown Chicago, which has oodles of room and a nice, black standard poodle to sleep with. Okay, it's not the same as the farm, but heck, you can walk to the train from here, borrow my car and do as you please. The door is always open. Will you puleeze email me ASAP?
