The Kids Are Alright

Let's hope the old people are, too. Mom, Alex and I are headed out to hear The Who in concert (the half that's left, anyway), and since they've been cancelling dates left and right due to Roger Daltry's bronchial infection, we're hoping we're not just in for some croaking and half-strength guitar-smashing. I'll let you know how it went, and if he makes it through the whole set. If his voice DOES give out, I'm kind of hoping it'll be right before the performance of the NEW "Rock Opera" they've been doing.

And yes, you read that right. Two 40-year-old people and their mother/mother-in-law, that's who's going. My mom will totally be rocking out, y'all.

The only downside to this whole thing is that now if there is EVER a Led Zeppelin reunion Alex will make me go, because that's where we fall in the great "Who is the better rock band?" argument. We both love both groups, but when it comes down to choosing just ONE, I fall firmly in the "The Who" camp, while Alex is a Zep-preferring heathen. He also likes the WRONG kind of dumplings in his chicken and dumplings. And yet, somehow, we make it work.

  1. I could never pick between the two because I have always had the smokin' white hots for both Roger Daltry and Robert Plant.

And I have fond memories of seeing both in concert. Zeppelin was my very first concert in 1975 and The Who in 1979 made my lose my hearing for three days.

  2. We're going to see half of Pink Floyd in May! I hope they still have the strength to play, let alone smash guitars!

  3. Wow, lucky you! I'd love to go see them. Either band actually.

  4. Oh, Belinda. You poor, poor thing. Deluded into thinking The Who is the Greatest Rock Band Evah. I'm firmly in the Alex camp on this one. Though Ian and I have a similar argument, though ours is Zeppelin vs. the Stones.

And also? I am SOOOOO jealous - you get to see one of the greatest rock bands of all time in concert. *swoon*

  5. I took wife.imp to the who concert last year and Roger fought the infection throughout the entire show.

While his voice was not soaring as in his youth, he did manage to choke out the lyrics through the gravelpit that was his throat...

actually it was not as bad as it sounds but he really really had to work through some of the songs.

but 2+ hours of the who is not to be trifled with!!

  6. I don't know about "greatest ever," because there are other contenders I love, like the Stones and Aerosmith (and yes, Led Zep), but just between the two, I'll take The Who.

Try this question on your friends sometime. It's as polarizing as Pepsi vs. Coke, and makes for lively discussion! For my part, I always like to compare the lyrics to "Won't Get Fooled Again" to the LZ genius that is "The Lemon Song." HAHAHAHAAAAAA!

Pete Townsend tonight said that they toured with Aerosmith in Japan last year. If I had seen those two bands together, I'd probably have pooped myself.

  7. Once again, i find myself firmly in Alex's camp. I do love The Who, but Zeppelin! C'mon Belinda! Nobody wore those tied fly tighty- pants like Robert Plant!

  8. Nah. I notice that I have over a dozen Who songs on my iPod, and 2 LZ ones. For me, it's just about depth of quality...there's just so much MORE Who to love!

Don't worry, if there's ever a Zep show ever again, I'll be second in line for tickets, right behind Alex!
